Special #67 Blackout!
Memebox is beauty service out of Korea. They offer plenty of different boxes, all packed with different types of beauty products, from skincare to makeup. You choose which box you would like and then make the order. Products sold in boxes are usually available to buy by themselves on the Memebox website, if you want/need a refill. Generally, the ratio between the price you pay and the actual worth of the products themselves is very good. Inside the box there is always a piece of paper on top, which describes what each product is, and how it ought to be used. I do not suggest getting rid of the paper, because the instructions and descriptions on the products themselves are in Korean, more often than not. It you're interested, you can check them out at www.memebox.com.
I ordered the #67 Blackout! Box from Memebox. This box was supposed to contain beauty products all somehow associated with the color black, hence the name.
1. B&SOAP Black Block 85g
This product is a soap bar made of charcoal, rosemary, and olive oil. It is intended to help detoxify, cleanse and refresh your face.
The box contained the full size product, worth $24.
The bar itself feels waxy when dry, but it foams easily. The foam applies quite smoothly onto the face, and washes off well with warm water.
I personally have mixed feelings about this product, but I wouldn't want that to discourage anyone. I tried it initially at the end of the day, adding it to my post-makeup-removal routine. It left my skin feeling very smooth, almost polished, but not particularly refreshed. However, it worked wonders as a pre-makeup application type of product. It smoothed and soothed my skin, and made it feel clean and ready for the new day.
2. Honest Clinic Black Hole Spot 10ml
This product is a blemish-fighting cream. You are supposed to apply a tiny bit before bed to the blemish, and the product help to get rid of it and even out your skin tone.
The box contained the full size product, worth $26.
I was actually pleasantly surprised by how well this worked! While the blemish did not completely disappear over the course of one night, as advertised (not that I was really expecting it to), it definitely diminished in size and notability. I believe this is a great product to have, as it really does work, and let's face it - none of us have skin that's perfect all the time. The product itself is a rather fluid gel which applies smoothly. After it dries on your skin, it does feel a tad bit sticky, but this shouldn't be a problem, as it is a product intended for night use.
3. Tosowoong Black-Head Nose Pack 8ea
This product is a rather simple one, probably familiar to most people who have had to fight blackheads in their life. You take out one of the strips (of which there are eight in the box), and apply it to your nose, which you wet with a little water beforehand. Wait about 15 minutes for it to dry, then slowly peel it off. It will stick to the tops of the blackheads and remove them effortlessly and painlessly.
The box contained I full size package of these, which contains 8 strips, and is worth $6.
I am quite fond of products like this, and was very pleased to find it included in the box. Personally, I am always grateful when services like Memebox are able to provide me with products I not only can, but definitely will use. This is especially true because this product worked very well, and did exactly what it was intended to do - removed the blackheads from my nose. It does smell a little chemical-y when it is first applied, but the smell quickly dissipates and isn't overpowering, anyway.
4. L'CRET Hair Color Keeper Treatment Shampoo 300ml
This product is a shampoo intended to help dyed hair maintain its color for a longer period of time.
The box contained the full size product, worth $42.
In all honesty, this product was the biggest disappointment in the box. While it is certainly worth a lot, the price and actual value are quite different. It left my hair feeling waxy, almost greasy, after it dried. While it may, over time, truly help to retain my hair color, I personally don't see the point of using a shampoo that I have to then wash out with another shampoo.
Conclusion:
This box cost $19.00, $23.00 including shipping. The worth of the products included inside was $98. Even if I discount the shampoo, which I was extremely displeased with, the value of the box still comes out to $56, which is still more than double what I payed, and thus well worth the money. Overall, I am mostly pleased with the box, though I do admit I was initially a bit disappointed, as I expected there to be actual makeup included. After thinking it over, though, of was probably better this way, because I have enough makeup to last me a life time! However, I'm not sure I could honestly recommend it, because almost half the value of the box is in the shampoo, which is a complete bust. However, if you are ok with that, or with shampooing with regular shampoo afterwards, then this box might well be recommendable to you, if you are interested in the products included. Unfortunately, though, this box is sold out, however there are always new boxes at Memebox, and there might well be something similar to this up soon.
